Hi there,

I'm trying to find a lower cost scope for my .303 Enfield and dont have too much experience with scopes. Can anyone recomend something that will get the job done, but that wont break the bank. I have a Leupold VX-1 and I know the Elite 3200 can be found for $200, but I'm thinking even cheaper than that.

thanks.

Brad

It takes a rich man to buy cheap scopes. Buy cheap=buy twice, so how much would that save you? An Elite 3200 would be a good scope to go with.

Yessir a used K4 would suit, you should be able to get a nice one for less than 100$. Added feature is that they are very light, something that will benefit your LE scope mount, as they are not noted for their robustness.

I've got an old Bushnell Sportsman 3-9 that's been sitting on top of my Enfield for 6 or 7 years now. It ain't a great scope by any stretch of the imagination, but me and the wife both have killed a goodly number of critter while looking through that scope (about a dozen deer, 2 elk, a bear, and a whole whack of grouse). Only complaint I ever had, was once I took a fall on a steep face and the gun landed scope first on a rock after falling from about shoulder-high. The point of impact was off about a foot at 100 yards after that. I dialed it back in, and it's still holding steady since then.

I'd recommend you buy the 3200 - you'll be much (much) happier with it, but if you're going cheap, a Bushnell Sportsman is both cheap and functional.

My favourite is the Lyman All American 2.5x scope.
These were "high end" hunting scopes in the '60's that sell for $75 - $100 , on Ebay from time to time.

I have a Barska (Chinese) cheapie scope on a 300 WinMag. It does the job and cost me under $100 for a 6X24X50mm. It holds zero and is quite acceptable. Sure it will never comare to a Leupold... but it ain't $1200 either!

Cheaper scopes

You might want to check out Cabelas (formerly SIR) mail order (Winnipeg) or Wholesale Sports.

Also, there used to be a company in Burnaby.....FUTONG INTERNATIONAL TRADING.........who imported a lot of scopes, mounts, ets.

I have used some TRADITIONS muzzle loading scopes on rifles. Their SILVER HUNTER SERIES has a scope reticle with cross hairs, but has one dot above and three dots below the horizontal cross hair. They are 3x9x40 scopes, and I bought three at Cabelas on sale for less than $60 each. One is on a .50 calibre muzzle loader, one on a 25-06, and one is on a .22 rimfire.

I use the .22 RF all the time for Manitoba gophers.......set at 4x and zeroed at 40 yards, the first dot is close to on at 60 yards, the second one about 80 yards, and the bottom one hits about 125 yards. A fairly simple system of aiming points.

Nikon Prostaff / Bushnell Legend

Hi Brad,
I am in the exact market as you - affordable scope for a No4mk1.

I am leaning towards a Nikon Prostaff or Bushnell Legend, both 2-7x, both around the $150 mark and both with favourable reviews.

check out Pentax. They make glass for alot of the big names but their own scopes are very affordable and the quality is excellent imo.
I bought one of their lower end scopes,a Gameseeker,to see what they were like and was shocked by the clarity.
best scope around $150 I've ever looked thru.
