Hi. I've posted a little and have been reading alot. I took and passed the CFSC & CRFSF this weekend and will send my application in for my PAL & PAL-R tomorrow, so I will be hanging around alot. Looking at starting off with a .22 rifle, and because I can, a handgun (not sure what kind yet).:D

Welcome! Another guys from Langley. :) Have you joined a club already? You'll need to in order to purchase your handgun and apply for your ATT. I shoot at Poco when I can.

Hi there, i'm in the same area as you, i shoot at mission gun club. If you ever want to come out on a weekday for shooting let me know and maybe we can arrange a day.

Not yet. I'm thinking Langley Rod & Gun, or perhaps the Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club. The Silvercore course I took actually shows how to fill out your ATT so you don't have to have jouined a club yet.

For your first handgun... go with a .22. Cheap and fun!

I was looking a Ruger yesterday and like the look of their .22 Single Six with the 9 1/2" barrel.:D

Thanks for the offer, I think that club is a little far for me though.

So you like poco over the langley club? how do you find the drive to poco?

Hi Matt, I'm a fairly new boy in the firearms field too, but I fell over a great little pistol you might like - it's a Walther P22. My semi-auto pistol was (very little) used, holds a 10 shot clip, shoots the cheapest ammo you can buy, is small enough to be handled by anyone, and has been enthused about by an ex army friend of mine (re quality and fun), and my wife enjoys dhooting with it too. It's a polymer framed weapon that comes with alternate grips to suit different hand sizes. It's a load of fun!

I've looked at the Walthers for semi-autos. They have a P99 DAO that has the slide lock on both sides to accommodate left handed users. The only other semi-auto handgun I liked was a Beretta they had at my safety course because they have a large slide lock I can operate with my trigger finger, and I like the grip. I haven't held a Walther yet. I thought a Glock would be nice but the grip was too narrow and wide for me.

Actually, being from Langley, I originally considered joining the Langley club. A few things convinced me to join the Poco club instead: 1) Langley only has a short indoor range for pistols and small caliber (.22) rifles, 2) Langley has limited days and hours to shoot. Langley is really good if you are mostly a shotgun shooter, as they have that nice trap and skeet range out there.

The drive to Poco can be brutal sometimes at peak hours or if there is an accident. Mostly, it takes me about 40 minutes to get there. If you are a Monday to Friday, 9-5 work schedule kind of person, the weekends can be brutal to find a bench to shoot as Poco has a ton of members and Range 7 is open to day card holders.

I echo everthing that was said above, i found that Langley gun club while nice for shotgun was quite limited for everything else. I decided to join Mission gun club because i did not want to have to go over the Port Mann to shoot. I found the travel time to Mission was a little less.
