Lower Mainland M14 "Mini Clinic" , Sunday MARCH 6th

Well, I had fun last night :D
Thought i would remind you guys on the items needed for treating your newly unitized gas cylinders
Outers liquid bluing is at can tire
Use a degreaser first with steel wool
Rinse in hot tap water
Dry
Apply solution and wait 30 seconds to 1minute
Rinse in ho####er
Dry then repeat 2 more times
Birchwood casey bluing kit will work too but the outers gives a much quicker and nicer finish
Treat entire gas assembly outer surface with CLP or a similar pnetrating gun oil
Be sure to clean inside cylinder with a non abrasive prior to reassembly

Till next time :D

Using that on the sample guide rod Thomas?

You could show us a pic I suppose ... ;)

Oh yes, that's a good idea ;)
New canadian made NM guiderods made thier debut at the clinic and my initial impression after installing put a BIG smile on my face
Will try and get some pics this week and post them while i'm still in the land of high speed internet ;)

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the help and advice, the friendly atmosphere!

I actually got more accomplished last night than I thought I would, and short of getting an sweet Boyd's stock, I'm not far off from my "end goal" with this rifle!

After getting home, I took the trigger group and started working it to wear it in...pinched myself with it, drew a little blood (builds character, or so they lied to me!), but got it much improved pull quality already (I think I cycled it perhaps 1500 times before turning off the TV). I also got to look through the NM aperture, and it is a definate improvement in sight picture! It looks the same, but the front blade is more precise, and the rear is more defined...I was surprised to find that snap shots may not suffer in speed, despite the smaller size of both...maybe that's my Army experience coming back to haunt me!

I think my primary remaining goals are: the new guide rods (looks very nice!), get handloading/reloading setup, and bed a new Boyd's stock for this. Then, maybe a year from now I'll seriously consider another M-14...got the bug already!

Anyone who's undecided about M-14Doc's stocks, the one we got to see/feel was VERY nice, very ergonomic, and quite lightweight. If I was looking for a modern style stock, or to shave every ounce (maybe for a heavy bipod/scope/mount combination), this would be ideal.

Anyway, thanks to everyone, in particular to Doc for leading the charge, and our welding friend who's name escapes me now!

Agreed ... that stock was awesome!
