What do I need to clean up the threads on the pistol grip screw on an AR lower? looks like the threads on an Oly I just got are totally Islandized, gonna hit home depot or Lordco tomorrow then off to work to fix it.

Get a tap and check the threads on the screw.

It is definitely the lower, tried three screws, I don't know why I bothered trying something other than Bushy or Colt...serves me right for driving outside the lane...

Sparrow: you need a 1/4-28UNF tap.
It is a 1/4" fine thread.

Thanks dude, that's what I needed to know, I'll grab it tomorrow if we don't already have it at work. This is going to drive me nuts all night now, I wish there were 24hr hardware stores...:(

there are, Home Depot on 1st is 24hr

I'll get Brock to chase the threads tomorrow...I think we have a full set at work, although this has spurned me to get some tools bolted to that bench of mine. Time for a vise, receiver block and all the other bits needed for a build at home along with a tap and die set...

You know, having come from the Automotive business/trade, I always told the young techs. to let the tools do the work instead of getting a bigger hammer. I should follow my own advice sometimes, less than $20.00 and a few minutes and the problem went away, clean threads = nicely fit and tight A2 pistol grip, and yes I disassembled the fire control parts and cleand it all out before assembling unlike that Island gun we got a while back, funny how aluminum shavings will cause a trigger to not reset. Thanks guys.
