LRB Receiver - is this "normal"? Anyone else have an LRB they can compare/check?

I just got this new LRB receiver from a sponsor. Before I do anything (warranty is gone the second you install anything on an LRB yourself), I wanted to see if anyone else has an LRB and if these issues are typical, or mine is defective?

No, I have not yet contacted the vendor - this isn't a b!tch-fest, I just want someone else with an LRB to advise if theirs is the same or not. If they are all this way, I'll just repair it and move on.

I loosely fitted a GI bolt in the gun, cycled it a few times and removed the bolt. I noticed resistance for the last 2 to 3mm of bolt travel. Upon inspection, there is a small ledge and chamfer interfering with the bolt going all the way back into the heel. The stick points to it, and you can see park already rubbed off from cycling a bolt by hand 4 or 5 times in the receiver (no barrel installed). The bolt DOES go all the way back, but I'm concerned this will peen the back of the bolt during live fire. Seems like sloppy machining to me.

Secondly, the relief cut on the right bolt lug ledge is "double machined" leaving a logintudinal step in the rail recess where the right bolt lug tab is supposed to ride. It's about 0.5" long. Manually cycling the bolt as per above has marred the park a little where the step it, but it's definitely got a pronounced ledge a few thou tall here. I know it should not be there, but do all LRBs have it?

Receiver is a current manufacture unit, jus received new from a CGN vendor yesterday.

The rail hump (decelerator rail?) is normal USGI spec I believe, the rear part looks like it was done a little hastily.

I have a LRB M14/M25 receiver, the one with slots for scope mount integral in the receive. I don't see anything like what you describe on my receiver.

But what I did have is one that quality control must of just looked at the overall firearm and said OK to go. There was a significant problem! There was no slot in the receiver to remove the Op Rod. The Op Rod, firing pin assembly, etc could not be disassembled. I still can't figure out how they got it together in the first place! Anyways, I sent my LRB to M14 Doctor, and he ground out a disassembly slot in the receiver, blued it up nicely, and the M14 fires and disassembles fine now. Sending it back to LRB for warranty was not an option as it sat in the US for about a year before I finally got it. Then it was about 6 months of winter to wait for Spring/Summer so I could comfortably go out and try out this M14. Beautiful rifle with surprisingly tight groups. The problem showed up when I tried to disassemble the LRB M14/M25 for cleaning after this range outing. I would never buy another M14 from LRB.

Mike, the "rail hump" as you call it is not what I'm pointing at. There is a short section where there is a second shallow "step" where it looks like the cutting tool went too deep. So it's actually got two "rail humps" on the same part of the flat. It's clearly a machining error, I'm just curious if they all have it.

Not sure if they all have it, but I found more negative reviews then positive when I was googling them regarding spec/QC and those sort of things.

If you think there are LRB complaints, google SAI receivers (!).

If I could get one, I'd get a stripped BULA receiver, alas I know of no source without ordering a full rifle for around $3K.

Cosmetically this receiver is great and is really well made. The rail issue likely won't make any difference, and it's possible the bolt won't go that far back when the oprod is installed. I still need to check that. Word case, I can blend that very minor area with a dremel.

I absolutely LOVE the Chinese receivers in terms of dimensional accuracy and function - alas they are ugly as sin, can't be brought stateside (legally), and truth be told, I'm not sure I have the same faith in the newer ones than the 2007 and earlier receivers I used to always use for these sorts of builds :(

I have one not installed yet, Serial number in the 11,000+ range. The machining in that same spot appears a bit smoother on mine.LRB M25 Receiver Rear UnderSide.jpg
