Hey all anyone have any opinions on the PGW LRT-3 ? Thinking about adding one to my collection this spring. To be honest I don't even really have a long range rifle at this point in time. Largest caliber rifle I have is my VZ 58 in 7.62 my other rifles are AR15's. I do plan to pick up something in .308 as well. Something that will be cheaper to shoot to get the shooting fundamentals down with.

What type of scope would you all recommend for the big .50 ? I want a FFP scope I have my mind made up there, yes I know the reticle will enlarge as I zoom in at long distances. I am thinking this one in MOA http://www.mysticprecision.com/wp/2307/sightron-siii6-24x50-ffp-lrmoa-and-mh/

And I know I know Sightron is not a Nightforce but I cannot find a Nightforce with a FFP.

Thanks

Don't have the space to stretch it out, then it's an expensive safe queen to show off to your buddies. You'll buy it, fire a few shots, show it off to your friends, get bored really quick, then put it up for sale on the EE hoping to get your money back. Been there done that:redface: However if money is no object, go for it:p

haha There wont be any of that "getting my money back" if I sell it it will be a loss. I don't plan on selling it. Will it be used 40 or 50 times a year ? No im not the US army but I will have it out and have fun with it. I should have a decent distance to shoot too. There are a few pretty open places I can think of.

Where are you located? I can arrange for you to try my LRT-3 possibly some other
50s as well. I highly recommend the LRT-3 excellent accuracy amazing service from PGW and I really like the feel of the rifle.

Newfoundland. I'm guessing you are not on the rock :) At this point im wanting the lrt-3. just want to hold off another little while so I can make sure I have a few decent places to shoot it. Do you reload your own ammunition for it ? How do you find the recoil ?

Nothing too major 1000 meters should do me. I don't think im going to be like some people shooting 2 or 3 thousand meters. I have a few ideas for places. I would prefer somewhere I can get with my truck.

Recoil is very tame and as for reloading yes I reload for my LRT-3. I can get pulled projectiles for .70 cents ea that can shoot MOA some times better if I sort them by Ogive Swissinn shot a 5" group with them out of Kevin M.s Serbu at 700m so they work pretty well I would say.

I have a few ideas for some places on crown land. Yes I know the hunting regs here state if you are shooting on crown land you are considered poaching. BUT you can get permission for shooting on crown land from wild life. My brother and I have gotten permission in the past. It was good for the whole summer if I recall.

There is lots of open terrain around, I don't mind it not being accessible with my truck I have my quad to use to set up gongs and such. The spots I choose will have to be good. Preferably I would like to shoot into a hill side or down a hill side and have the ground as my back stop per say. I have seen so many people on youtube set up and shoot their .50's with no back stop and let the shot go into the woods !! Or shoot over treed valleys where you cannot see if there actually is anyone in those valleys or no (someone amongst the trees). Then there is that video where the guy shoots steel but is way to close and the round ricochets and hits him in the forehead. Scary stuff ! Not because of the gun just because of the stupidity !

How does the Serbu compare to the LRT-3 ? I was originally thinking about going for a semi (the Serbu in fact), but the LRT-3 is Canadian made, looks better and its a bolt gun so it SHOULD be 100% reliable !

I have a premier 5-25x56 ffp on my lrt-3 that works very well, the sightron is nice but I don't know if I'd put it on a 50. Nightforce is always a good option, us optics, tangent, S&B, and Burris all make FFP scopes as well and even bushnell elite. All of these will work
