How do ltatt work in alberta? Do you apply for it once and it is good for the # of years or do you have to apply everytime you buy a new restricted? I know it changes from province to province so that is why i want to check.

Thank that's perfect that makes life a whole lot easier, if you get a LTATT does it cover bringing them home from the store or the post office or do you have to get the temps for those then bring them home then they are covered?

Your supposed to have a short term ATT for both of those scenarios, also if you are moving. I have got them when I have needed them. That's the other great thing about Alberta...you can phone them for an ATT and they'll email it to you in just a few minutes.:)

But once it is in your house your LTATT is valid to take it to the ranges or the gunsmith right? its just when you are not using your house as the main start point is that an easy way to look at it?

Isn't there a vicious rumour floating around that LTATT's (or "blanket" ATT's) are no longer being issued in Alberta..???

Sounds false. I was issued mine yesterday.

It's obviously not "Blanket" meaning everywhere. Ranges, gunsmiths, border crossings until RPAL expiry.

I wasn't sure if this required it's own thread or not but I have a small issue.

I was issued an LTATT a year ago however it only encompasses Alberta. I recently applied for an LTATT that will allow me to travel to BC and other provinces. I remember hearing before of other members receiving such permits. I received a fax back from the Alberta CFO stating that "We are unable to issue a long term permit for area's other than Alberta".

They'll only authorize a short term ATT specific to a firearms course or event and I need to provide address and proof of the course or event and it should be provided 1 week in advance of departure. If I were to take up competitive shooting however, they MAY issue a multi province transport permit after a year or two of active competitive shooting.

So... is this new or have I simply misheard from before? I'll be doing a lot of trips to BC this summer and this will just be a pain in the ass applying every few weeks just to cross the Alberta/BC Border. I guess I don't need to bring my restricted firearms but it'd be nice.

Well, at least someone from the CFO office was willing to call me back and talk to me directly. Belonging to a range in BC only helps me for that specific range. I need an invite or letter from whichever range I plan on just "visiting" each time. Not that I really NEED a BC permit but it just seems asinine that I need to go through such lengths if I happen to want to shoot some restricted firearms on my vacations through BC this summer.

you cannot take yours restricted on vacations ... d:h: a shame but the laws nor the chief firearms officers didnt permit that.
