Luger snail drum assistance

Hi I'm looking for info on how to service (dissasemble, clean, reassemble etc... ) the luger snail drum mag.

Also looking for a loading tool if anyone knows where I can get one.

Edit: I figured it out. If you're interested check out the photos linked below for the disassembly process and what the innards look like. Its now been cleaned lubed and reassembled. These are very well designed, it was all easy to do. I've given up on getting a loading tool, they are much too expensive, so I'm goig to make my own, for that I am looking for a deactivated luger frame to build it on. you don't. without some large machinery you will never get it back together. Loading tools show up on ebay. Don't forget loading tools are all post WWI. They were also police issue only.

Thanks Mark, I was looking forward to the December HMCS, its too bad I cant go.

Ok so I'm probably not going to dissasemble it, but there must be some tricks to cleaning it. Has anyone seen what the insides look like? Are there any greased or lubricated parts?, is it all dry? Is it all metal? Are there any paper or fabric washers or other parts?

I was thinking maybe of dunking it in some light oil, kerosene, alcohol or automotive parts cleaner, filling it up, sloshing it around really good on the inside, pour it out and repeat several times to flush out any crap that might be there. Then I'm left with either an oily mag or a dry mag with no lubrication, which may or may not be good for it.

Note I am not doing this for preservation but so it works well.

Any thoughts?
 
I have never seen a picture of the inside that I can think of. I have two, both are the early version. Unless it was jamming I would leave it dry. If it is jamming then I would try the diesel. They are great to have but must have been useless in combat seeing as how the loader was not made untill after the war.
 
Hell no, I can load 15 rounds by hand. Thats worth it right there. I might start using it for IPSC, that would be amusing.

I managed to get 30 rounds into it by hand, was not that hard to do, took a few minutes. I do need to make a tool to do this, I figure an old deactivated frame would work well as a base to start with (see my post here looking for one).

I was able to shoot off all the rounds ok. One problem is the rounds that go into the snail part can come out with old greasy gunk on them, resulting in 2 fail to extracts. So I am still in the market for hints and tips on cleaning and lubricating the mag.

So! Am I correct in assuming there is no Mag limit with Luger snail drum magazines. :)

Someone should do up a pictoral of this one on Milsurps.com or on here with a good description. I think this one's a keeper thread!

Last one i saw on Ebay was about $1880 usd. $1500 to $1800 USD is the rough figure.
 
Looking forward to it, even with my crappy eyesight I think I'll be able to reliably reach out at least 100 yrds.
