Maybe thats why Lyle didn't stay in touch with him, he doesn't say thankyou.
Well it's the least a guy can do when people help a guy out..from now on..I am pissed off frankly at few of the posts here lately with the lack gratitude when someone tries to offer help,and gets no response.
So I will personally..start giving what I receive..s**t.

Boomer was just trying to make folks smile, no harm intended from where I sit,
also for those who know the gunsmith that person is not the best at returning calls nor finishing the job after being paid in advance so perhaps that has not changed and so the gunsmith maybe has not responded in this case,

x2 on paying linkaitus in adavance.supposed to be back to me in 3 months as he was busy.A little over the 2 year mark before it arrived. trying to get an answer on anything well. the man has more excuses than Doans has pills.

Nothing but good experiences with Lyle, he built 2 rifles and customized a third for me and I have never had a problem.
I had nothing but great service from Lyle I actually just send another gun to him. It dont matter in any kind of service there is always people happy with the service and some not.can't keep everyone. anyone that provides a service know's this!
Kind of the same experience quoted the rifle would be done in 3 months(paid a deposit, never full upfront), at the 3 month mark the parts hadn't even been ordered. By this point the shooting season was over so I let it sit and then started with the phone calls at the 7 month mark had it in my hands in the 9th month.
I will say that the work he did is excellent and the rifle shoots great, however I would probably use someone else next time. It's not that I'm impatient( ok maybe a bit) but when you quote a time stick to it or be in contact, sometimes that is just as important as the quality of you're work. That said i do love my rifle

Lyle's work is second to none, but like you guys I had issues with his turnaround time and his imaginary deadlines. Actually the first build he did for me in the late 90s (a 700 Remington in .222 with a Gaillard barrel that I've bragged up often on these pages) was completed quickly and the workmanship was excellent quality and I thought I had a gem of a guy here. But later projects became a problem. When I dealt with him, gunsmithing was a sideline to his day job, and I tried to take that into account. We finally had a difference of opinion as to how a powerful rifle should be built, and that was when finally I switched to Dave Jennings in BC. I think Lyle might still read these pages now and then, and if so I hope he realizes that he is talented enough that he can have a successful business, particularly if he sticks to target or match rifles which seems to be his forte, but he won't be successful without repeat customers. At the time Prairie Gun Works was just getting started, and Ross put out some pretty rough work early on, but once Steve became involved his quality soared and look where they are now . . . that could have been Lyle.

He did the work on my rifle. The one posted on this forum-New Iron Once Old- I cant complain about it at all. I never did talk to him through the build, Gilliard was the middle man. But what I recived in return was excetional!!

I think that guys here need to realize that Lyle doesn't primarily gunsmith for a living and I don't blame him, it is hard to get enough of a steady income to pay the bills. That being said, if you have a project that you want done in a reasonable amount of time (read approx 3-6 months) he will build it right. I had a 338 LM built with him and it turned out exactly as I wanted. If you are looking to have a quick job, it can be a bit frustrating to get a hold of him between his normal work hours. I would still recommend him in a heartbeat though.
