I have a Lyman 1000XP compact electronic reloading scale. It is 2 years old and it has started to creep. I will load 10 rifle cases and then go back and check them all and I noticed some are .4 grains different. Do you know of a quick fix, other than that lined basket beside my desk!
I need a reliable scale for precision shooting, this isn't cutting it.

What do you recommend I purchase and it must not easily go out of calibration like this one. I mean 10 case fills with the Lyman and 5 different weights, come on!
Till then I guess its back to old Lee beam scale, if I can find where i stored it.

ALL digital scales creep. That is why ALL scales have a way to recalibrate.

Room temp, level, dust and dirt can all make a scale change. Do you leave your scale plugged in and on?

do you retare your scale before using?

Should be in your manual. Otherwise, a direct call to Lyman should solve your problem.

I now use a Jennings scale and it works great. I do have test weights that I put on every other time just to ensure things are ok.

Digi scales are fast and those numbers easy to see but a balance beam is visual and you know when things aren't on.

I've had problems with two electronic scales involving electrical interference. Flourescent lights, cordless telephone, and in my case even a 12v dc power supply....if I leave it plugged in and turned on next to my loading room.
I note the tare weight on startup, say 81.2 gr. Then take a look at the reading before putting the next loaded pan on. If it's drifted at all you can spot it immediately. Also have a balance beam scale set up for a final check IF I suspect any problem, but rarely use it because even with the little problems the electronic scales are way faster...for me anyway.:)

I find it helps to turn the scale on for a half hour before I plan to use it, the electronic components heat up when turned on and it takes a little while to stabilize.

Mine was creeping the other day. Checked it out and there was a grain of powder stuck between the base and the pan platform. Swept it out it's working fine again.

They all creep at some point. I had the RCBS and it creeped after 10 charges. I sold that and picked up a Dillon scale. The Dillon creeps less than the RCBS. I went back to using my RCBS balance beam for weighing powder and I only use the electronic scale for weighing cases.
