lyman 170gr cast flat point loads for 3030 and 308?
I've tried several powders, loads, seating depths, gas checks, crimps. but nothing seems to group than maybe 1.8 " at 100yrds. I don't seem to have this problem with the 150gr and 180gr bullets.
Anyone have a go to load for this bullet in 3030 and 308?

Bullet diameter affects accuracy more in cast bullets than jacketed. OTOH 1.8" at 100yds is not bad at all.

IMR4198 has worked well for me in 30-30:
IMR4198/170gr cast (data from LYMAN manual #49)
18gr = 1600 fps;
23.5gr = 2000fps

1.8" at a hundred with cast, that's freaking fantastic! !!.
Plus one on 4198 in 3030 for cast boolits.
Plan to try the Noe rd 170gr hp in 308 one of theses days.
Be well

I use the 23.5 grain load in my .303 savage. Crony's @1985 fps. With a Lyman peep it does 2" at 100 yards. That is as good as I can shoot. 165 grain Ranch Dog style lead bullet from Jet bullets. Lubed, gas checked and sized to .311".

try some cast using a 50/50 WW/PB with a touch of tin

Do NOT size.... fire 'em as cast and see what happens.

try to keep your initial velocity under 1600 and work up slowly

ETA:
Oh yeah, and check the specs on that bullet.... depending on the manufacture, I have read some folks have found the nose too small diameter... it needs to be Bore Dia + 0.001-0.002 to stabilize well.
