Lyman 310

I have one but never used it. Paid a couple of dollars for it at an auction. The auctioneer said it was a wire stripper. Many years ago used to be a fellow at the Calgary gun show had a whole booth of them but he died and I could never find what happened to his stock.

The Lyman 310 tool, with it's small dies, was the first loading tool for a great many hand loaders. I never owned one, but the first hand loads I ever shot were made on a friends 310 tool.
As late as the 1970s one match shooter I knew loaded all his ammunition for the matches with a 310 tool.
At that time the Rifleman's Rodeo was very popular at Salmon Arm, BC., attracting around 100 shooters. One of the regular shooters was the Park Warden at Wells Gray Park and he was also a major winner at some of the various events. I forget what calibre rifle he had, but it was likely some type of 6mm.
He would come to the shoot with enough ammunition to do him for the first day. That evening he would sit at a picnic table by the camp fire and load his ammunition for the next day, maybe 40 or 50 rounds, using his Lyman 310 tool, along with a powder measure.
On top of that, he was a great story teller and during the entire time that he was loading his ammunition, he told stories for all of us at the evening get together!

I enjoy the 310 tools, most all of my casings are deprimed using one, I do however prefer a Lee or a RCBS hand priming tool to prime mainly because I do not have to handle every primer with them. Works great for the 38-55. So I would think it should work as well for the 45-70 and the 45 Colt.

How many own the 310 tool? what are your likes and dislikes about it? Good for 45-70?
I don't know about 45-70 but I have used them for 38,44mag, and 44-40 for years. I love that I can do it anywhere I go without a lot of setup space. Perfect for working up loads at the range.

I have a collection of 310 tools. 14 die sets with the older steel tongs. Found a Lyman junior which I set up. Then along came 2 more. I’ve used the dies a lot for case forming. They work great when you want to increase or decrease necks without sizing the bodies. A couple sets I still use for neck sizing due to not having proper dies for that caliber. 6.5 Swed gets used for 6.5x53R.
