I have a friend that is willing to sell me his older Lyman 45 lube sizer and I was wondering if anyone has one and if parts are still around for it. I looked on the Lyman site and there are parts for the 450/4500 but no mention of the older 45. I assume the dies will fit from the 450/4500 just wondering what your experineces were with it. Thanks for any info.

The 45 is compatable with all the modern HN and RCBS dies and top punches.

I retired it because I got a Lyman 450, The 45's piston for pressuring the lube leaked by when higher pressures applied.

The 450 pressurizes higher and doesn't leak, might be my 45 was worn out:(

Nothing wrong with the 45 otherwise.

I use 50% beeswax/50% alox and it flows good without heat.

Hi hunter64,
The piston from a Lyman 450 is the same dia as the 45, The 45 piston is sealed by a brass sleeve, The 450 uses a piston that has 2 O-ring grooves machined in it.

So if the 45 leaks and the piston from a 450 is still avalible from Lyman you'd be in business. I believe the main diffence in the 4500 and the 450 is the main frame has a heater element drilled and tapped into it., I woudn't doubt the 4500 uses the same size piston.;)

I might just get my old 45 piston machined for o-rings
then I'll have a back up.

Just got an email from Lyman and the only thing they have for parts is the pressure screw sub assembly and that is it. So I guess if you can't see it work for yourself then it is a crap shoot.
