Has some (as low as none and as high as 30%) of my reloads making the bolt hard to close (and in extreme cases, impossible to close), so I thought I did the right thing and bought a Lyman Ammo Checker.

Found out that some "oversize" rounds will fit in the checker, and not in the rifle, and some that will fit the checker but not the rifle. Anyone have experience with those? Very confused now...

Ammo gauges are supposed to be built to the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI) specs. However, there are allowable tolerances within those specs so if you have a reloading die that is cut to the maximum allowable spec and a chamber that is cut to the minimum allowable spec there is an excellent chance that the resized cartridge will be difficult or even impossible to chamber in that barrel.

Ammo guages are cut within the tolerance range so if your gauge is cut closer to the high end of the spec range then the reloaded cartridge may fit the gauge but if the barrel chamber is cut to the low end of the spec range the cartridge may be hard to chanber or not fit at all.

I suspect that most ammo guages are cut to the high end of the range so that if a cartridge will not fit it then it is definitely oversize.

Hope this makes sense.
