I recently ordered a case size guage from lyman for pistol rounds. It consists of a aluminum block with all the common pistol rounds drilled into it with the notion of if it drops into the appropriate hole it should feed into the pistol.
( Factory spec sizing I assume)

Have any of you used one of these ? If so how do they correlate to loading the bullets without issue in the pistol. Seems like a good idea to use this rather than drop every round into the chamber ( removed barrel ) to checkfor potential feeding issues.

using the real chamber is better in my opinion
an oversize round may still fit in the chamber even if it doesn't clear the gauge.

Some gauges only check from the case mouth to the base of the case.

Other gauges will also check the diameter of the case and check to see it conforms to minimum case dimensions. And this is why you are told to use "YOUR" barrel as the gauge, meaning minimum sizing to fit your chamber. (if loading for one pistol)

Now drop a fired case into your gauges and see how they fit because these gauges do vary in diameter. Then cross check with factory loaded ammo, I load for three 9mm and my resized cases must meet minimum dimensions to feed in all three 9mm pistols.

As an example a Wilson rifle case gauge will only check from the shoulder to the base of the case. And my J P Enterprises - .223/5.56 Match Case Gauge checks shoulder to base and also checks for minimum case diameter.
