Has anyone found a workable alternative to using Lyman mold handles ????

I can order them, but if there's something else that somebody's found that can be adapted to work, I'd love to hear about it. I should note, I have access to a mig welder, so a bit of manufacturing is not out of the question. It kinda ticked me off when work sold the Bridgeport knee mill. Oh well.

At $41.50US a set I'd be making them too. They're just a set of tongs. I bet a set of channel lock pliers would work.

The Lee 6 cavity mould handles can be easily modified to fit the newer Lymans, RCBS, and Saeco's. I think they are around $20 @ WSS.

Seen a few pairs that people have made and they all worked better than the Lyman ones that I have. Mine are heavy because they are cast, overly wide and and taper to toward the pivot point either because they are meant for a smaller mold block or because the were designed by someone with the hands of an NBA star. My hands actually ache after a couple hours of casting.

Meaning to get a set of Lee handles just as soon as I order a 6 cavity to go with them.

I ground up a cheap pair of slip joint pliers (like $3, at the hardware store) drilled a couple holes, and had at.

Key to the whole op is to remember that the mold has to be able to pivot on the two pins to sit square to the other half.

Works fine. I wear a glove on each hand, use the left hand to open the sprue plate.

Cheers

I thought of doing something like that but I was worried about the handles getting too hot to hold onto during a very long casting session.

KAL is the outfit you were referred to when you posted it in the general dealers news forum- I just couldn't remember the company name so referred you to a forum where he posts and gave you his sign in name. But, that's him.
