This is for the Pro-Touch and Micro-touch scales

February 9, 2022

Lyman Products Customers, It has come to our attention that some recent production Pro-Touch 1500 scales produced in 2020 & 2021 had a circuitry change which may result in certain scales improperly reading trickled powder. This could potentially produce a lower scale reading than the actual amount. For this reason, we are initiating a recall and providing repair or replacements for some of these scales. If your scale was purchased in 2020 or 2021, please follow the instructions below to determine if your scale is affected and requires repair or replacement.

HOW TO CHECK YOUR SCALE: Affected scales can be identified during the calibration process:

1. Be sure your Pro-Touch 1500 scale is plugged in to an active wall outlet or has fresh AAA batteries installed. See Operating Instructions for set-up guidance.
2. Press the CAL button to start the calibration process
3. The scale display will show “CAL”, and then switch to “100” to indicate to place the calibration weight on the scale.
4. SCALES AFFECTED BY THE RECALL WILL FLASH “CAL.” 3 TIMES. THESE SCALES MUST BERETURNED TO LYMAN PRODUCTS.
5. Scales that show “CAL” but do NOT flash are not affected by the recall and may remain in use.

ORDERING YOUR REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT SCALE:

STEP 1: If your scale flashes “CAL” 3 times, call our Customer Service department at 1-800-225-9626.
STEP 2: Our customer service team will issue you an RMA.
STEP 3: In case of a delay in repairing or replacing your scale, as a courtesy, a Lyman Pocket Touch Digital Scale may be shipped to you upon request as a temporary replacement, free of charge and yours to keep.
STEP 4: Ship your affected scale to Lyman Products using our prepaid return shipment label. Once we receive your affected scale, your repaired or replaced Pro-Touch 1500 scale will be shipped at the earliest availability.

Lyman Products is committed to ensuring our products meet the high quality standards that our customers have come to rely on. We apologize for any inconvenience this product recall causes and want our customers to know that your safety is our first priority. Sincerely, Lyman Products

I had a pro touch, I believe around christmas time which didn't measure trickled powder accurately. I returned it. I also have the micro touch which I only use for verifying already measured charges so I haven't noticed the issue yet. It is one that flashes "cal" so it's affected by the recall.

I called Lyman. They were very nice. They're going to send a new one but it will be a while. In the interim, they giving me a free no-strings pocket scale to keep because of the delay. They said that for Canadian customers they don't want the scale shipped back because it's too costly. They asked me to just smash/destroy it. They really don't want them out there because they can be a bit risky so he was very adamant that I be sure to destroy the old one.

The gentleman at Lymann said the chinese supplier changed a part without permission which caused the issue.

As I said in another thread, I had 2 chargemaster lite's which I returned around Christmas time because they couldn't accurately measure trickled powder and would give a totally different reading if you lifted the pan and put it back again. I'd bet good money they got screwed by the same chinese supplier in the same way.

My Lyman Gen 6 also bought around the same time to replace the 2 defective charge masters can definitely handle trickling correctly and is great!

Lyman's service was excellent. RCBS not so much since I could never get a hold of anyone, ever.
