I haven't run across this yet in any of the threads so here goes. I have an ARMS #18 and the 3200 scope on my M-14. I don't have a problem with brass hitting the turret as has been discussed here, but I am having a problem with about every fifth round snagging between the mount and the bolt face. At first I thought maybe my reloads were the cause but then I used Portugese surplus ammo and some DND stuff as well and they do it too. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Your ejected cases are probably hitting the outer edge of the ARMS mount and are being sent back into the reciever.This is a common problem as the ARMS #18 mount sits quite low over the reciever area.
Look for any brass marks on the edge of the mount.
You can try replacing the ejector spring with a USGI spring, or cutting a coil or two off of the factory ejector spring ( be sure you have a spare if going this route).Cutting the spring has helped a lot of people solve this problem.
The Norc ejector spring is pretty stiff and tends to send the ejectedcase out and up higher then USGI springs.
Some have this problem and some don't.All in the luck of the draw I guess.

I have the same problem with mine. I clipped my spring back and it still does it (Nork spring, still have not got around to replacing w/a G.I. spring). Like SB said it does work for some though.

Those old open top mounts are sought after items these days and are hard to find.I know of one but my buddy won't part with it for anything.
This is why I like the SEI mount over the ARMS #18 mount.
The other thing you could do is have the center of the mount machined out........

I understand that the earlier ARMS M21 #18 mounts may be better than the current ARMS #18 as they were not a full rail across. Before you machine the center of the mount out check around for older scope mounts. My TSA is build on this older style and I have nad no problems with Norinco ejection.

I had the same problem and replaced the bolt springs with USGI. THis reduced the problem but it still occurred. As I wanted more than 90% reliability I ended up selling te ARMS mount and sticking to open sights. It turns out I shot better at 100m without the scope anyways ;-)

The problem I found is while the action is being held open by the ejected brass I was still able to pull the trigger and it works, lucky the new round was not against the bolt face.
Is this normal on M-14 or should I be fixing this?
