M-14 Bolt Jammed Open at Range!

The punches you get with SKS in the tool pack work perfect for removing pins rishi65.

I've used em on more than a few rifles for things like this.

If your trying to pound a pin of any kind out.

place the peice over a object with a hollow center.

A vice slightly opened with leather or some plastic between the object and the metal on the vice is nice to do the trick.

a old wheel bearing sleeve works good too.

Very interesting Drake21, no one that I'd spoken to had seen this particular issue before, and before seeing the rifle North Sylva was quite certain that couldn't be the problem (apparently they changed their minds when they swapped the bolt).

Ahem Leonard, funny you should mention that, as I saw an SKS tool kit for the first time just last night. The tool you're referring to looks like it would've worked perfectly.

It's also worth noting, that the four hours it took me to assemble the bolt the first time, were a result of using an old punch I had sitting in my tool box, and the base of a wooden handled roofing hammer, to smash the extractor back into place. My fingers were bloody and sore for a week and there were bits of lacquered wood wedged into my bolt assembly, lol (no I don't make a point of treating my guns this way, and yes it made me sick to my stomach to do that). It can be done without a bolt assembly tool, painfully.
My friend, if you don't want to invest in a bolt disassembly tool: find yourself a fired 30-06 case. Then Google "M14 (or M1a) bolt disassembly 30-06". Trust me, I've done both ways. Almost took my eye out with the ejector and spring... Then spent the next hour looking for said parts...
