M-14 Re-chambered to 300 WSM

Heaven only knows what sort of modifications would have to be made to the gas system, what operating rod/bolt velocities would be like. There would be greater backthrust on the bolt, greater load on locking lugs. Don't know if the bolt face could even be opened out.

Don't think it has been done!
Just checked to see if a 300 WSM would feed out of the mag. I'll be damned, they fit in just fine and slide forward to feed in the center of the mag. Other than some serious bolt face work and a rechambering job. Port timing and recoil spring replacement, beef up the OP rod, change gas piston , etc........etc.......etc! All it would take is a very big chunk of change $ !!
Now the next thing what pressures will the M14/305 takes before it comes unglued. Personally I think the WSM pressures will be far in excess of what the M305 action will take. Good luck finding a gunsmith willing to take on the project. Located a smith advertising on the internet that converts M1 Garands to 338win. Mag. Your dream maybe a possibility. McCann Industries in Washington State does the various caliber conversions for the M1 Garand.Up to .458 Winchester.
However he is an engineer and top machinist with vast amounts of experience in firearms engineering & construction.
He makes the adjustable M1 Garand gas plug.

If you are not in hurry, wait until Springfield release their version of the M1A in .300 rsaum, i read in a magazine that they are in process of building one since the M14 series gain popularity again with the Civil AND the military as well. The reason they choose remington .300 instead of WSM is the same as Armalite that use .300 rsaum. It seem feeding is easyer du to neck angle ??
