Since Canadian dollars are the highest right now. I saw a m-14 scope mount in US is only $39. Just wondering if this is the right one with good quality.

chinese knockoff of the springfield generation 3 mount- pos ,imo- a search of the stickies under battle rifles will tell you what to buy, if you want a QUALITY mount

I believe thats a piece-a-####e (B-Square style) Thats only secured by one one point....A.R.M.S#18 is a three-point mount.

I had an A.R.M.S.#18 M1A/M14 mount, which is very good. Also Smiths Enterprise are just as good; if not better.

well you're not right- look at the aft knob- also the lettering- the split pin shown is for the replacement stripper clip guide- that makes it a 3 point mount- there's 2 points right at the front being the the screw itself and the accompanying bars that lock into vertical and horizontal slots on the receiver, ( they're on the backside of the mount where you can't see them )
and the mating of the screw into the modified stripper clip guide secured to the receiver by that roll pin makes 3- therefore it's a 3 point mount, but still a chinese knockoff- it also looks like it says m-v i r on a store x00vx

I'm looking for a mount as well. There would be nothing I'd find more frustrating than a mount that isn't solid or if it was poorly designed an impaired the function of the rifle, so I'm buying with caution.

READ THE STICKIES- A QUALITY MOUNT WILL COST OVER 200 AND IS MADE OF STEEL-ARMS, smith ent, BROOKFIELD SADLAK, ETC- i don't normally shout but the message isn't getting through-THE REASON YOU DON'T WANT THE ALUMINUM IS THE way it interacts with the steel of the receivers- even the so-called "QUALITY' mounts by springfield will work loose unless you "seat" the mount with a hammer- then it's mated to THAT receiver and not to anything else-and for the cost of a 3rd generation new, better to spend a few extra and get a steel( mine was 180 new before i knew better)- TO GET A QUALITY SCOPE AND MOUNT, BE PREPARED TO SPEND AT LEAST THE PRICE OF THE RIFLE

For the sheer folly of spending only $40 for an M14 scope mount, your #### will surely fall off.

Get as many accross the border as you can. For that price buy 3 or 4; put one on your rifle, shoot it for a while, put another one on (get the picture). I have a $75 scope mount on my rifle, and it still hits where I aim .... Just because it is not a name brand part doesn't mean you will never have accuracy.

If you buy a proper mount (ex. Smith Enterprises), you can always sell it later and recoup most of your money. Good mounts are always in demand. A junk mount can take the the enjoyment out of scoping your rifle and you'll probably regret it. I'd say go the extra mile and don't dissappoint yourself.

With a cheap mount your are more likely to swear at your rings, your scope, your mount (individually or a combination of all 3). Once you toss in the variable of a cheap mount, then everything else in the accuracy and sighting in equation suspect. You got lots of time for that nonsense ? (I've been there) Then by all means go for it.

One thing is for sure, you are less likely to achieve immediate success with that route (read: less likely). With an ARMS #18 or Smith Ent 2024 mount, you are more likely to achieve immediate success (read: less time wasting) and hence increase your enjoyment in this hobby.

I'm speaking from experience. Save your money, work extra shifts, better yet, quit drinking every day and a save the beers for the weekend. That way you can afford a great mount and keep your hairline intact. :D Even better, quit smoking and use that money towards the ARMS or Smith Ent mount.

Just don't buy the cheap mount and then come back to us on the board asking for suggestions why your cheap optics combination is 6 feet wide of the target at 50m. I get lots of PM's describing such a frustrating experience.

Enjoy the addiction.

I have been there and done that with cheap mounts and optics...........

I have used almost all the M14 mounts on the market and these ( or any other) "$39.00" are pieces of junk!!!!!!!

They won't stay tight and half the time they do not align properly on the reciever.

You get what you pay for.

Look at a ARMS #18, Smith Enterprises, or Sandlak mount. With the state of our dollar, these mounts are no where near as expensive as they used to be.

The $75.00 scope may hit where you aim ( for now), but chances are you bump that scope and your zero will be off.Plus that scope is probably not repeatable in its adjustments (even if it is, after a little while the adjusting mechanism will wear and the adjusments will be shot).

Do this as a test:

-Shoot a 3 or 5 shot group.
-Go 20 clicks right and shot another group
-go down 20 clicks and shot another group
-go left 20 clicks and shoo another group.
-Finally come up 20 click and shoot your last group.

You should have a nice "square" with a group evenly at each corner, with the first and last group in the same holes as the first.........If not, then your scope's adjustments are crap.

If you are just plinking and don't really care about accuracy (and don't mind headaches), then cheap mounts and optics are fine.

However if you want CONSISTENT, REPEATABLE accuracy, want to reach out farther then 100 meters, or shoot in competitions, then cowboy up and buy decent mounts and optics.

SKBY.:D

just for fun i did a little digging - your 39 dollar mount is 29 us direct from the manufacturer, without your e-bay middleman- you've heard from both skullboy and hungry, which are the foremost m14 "boys" on this board- don't let that go to your heads, guys, you've earned it- if you still buy the cheap mount, don't say you weren't warned

y'know i really shouldn't get all that hot about this stuff, but the stickies are there for a reason- but when i got my brood, the really good mounts weren't on the market, and in one instance, the b-square was the only thing that fit- 3 of them are now safe queens , and the norc is one of the early ones that has the angle grind to it- you have to use the set screws to stop the mount from canting
the springfield has a 3rd gen springfield( that sucker was 180 bucks at the time) my h&r has a 2nd gen spring( it's the same as a 3 but there's no rear mount)
and my trw has a s&k steel( i checked it with a magnet)
but if and when we ever get these out of the closet again, i'll be changing the mounts

You can get a premium quality Smith steel mount from Brownells for $225, it will last forever and you will get your money back if you sell it. You will also be able to zero your scope without a sledge hammer.

Like Hungry and Skullboy and others who learned this the hard way have already mentioned, the price of a top quality M-14 scope mount is a wise investment. While there are some cheap mounts that can be made to work, if your time is worth more to you than $ 1.00 per hour, pay the man whatever he wants and consider it a bargain. Unless you actually enjoy foolin' round with such stuff?

HOWEVER,
if you absolutely can not afford the [ approx] $ 300 for an ARMS, SEI, or Sadlak, the PROMAG PM081A M-14 mount is available from many US dealers for a list price of $ 130. ... often discounted as low as $ 60 US.

The PROMAG PM081A is basically an ARMS without the brand name markings, and without the triangular mounting pad that slips into the rear dovetail slot.

Like the ARMS. the PROMAG is well machined of STEEL. I do not have enough rounds through mine to assess longevity or durability, but so far it looks very promising. This mount is by far the best of the cheap mounts I've personally tried [ and I've tried dozens ].

PS: Just because an M-14 mount is expensive, and comes from a well known manufacturer, does not necessarily make it a good mount ...
IMHO, the Springfield mounts, of ANY generation, are an embassment to their name.

As usual,
YMMV,

I purchased on of those cheap UTG 3 point mounts and put my cheap Aimpoint on it. I used lots of loctite and its going strong after about 400 rds.
