I was just wondering what is the differnce other than price in regards to the mounting options for the M1A, Tha ARMS mount seems considerably smaller as in lower to the chamber and i have heard of it causing jamming issues with this mount. The Springfeild on the other hand, looks sweet and all and sturdier in construction. I have the Spring feild mount on order with wolverine but they just emailed me today saying it wasn't on this shipment after waiting 6 weeks already only to be told i have to wait another 7 weeks. But offered me the ARMS mount as they have it in stock. WHAT SHOULD I DO???

Thanx Hans

If you have a Springfield M1A I heard there is a small fitting issue. If you have a Norico the ARMS is the one to get given your choice, no worries!

ARMS is hugely superior to Springfield Armory, take the ARMS and don't look back! The jamming is usually due to an ejecting case becoming stuck due to a ring's base, not the mount itself. Due to the mount's geometry, this can be an issue, but dehorning that corner of the ring usually solves the problem. Again, this may or may not be an issue depending on what rings you use.

As for sturdiness, the SA's have a zero holding issue, never heard of that with ARMS.

I've got one of each on my 2 m14s.The arms sits lower than the springfield and has a lot less bulk to it.Occasionally the arms mount would stovepipe an ejected case between it and the op-rod.The cure for this is trim the ejector spring. The arms18 has been a rock steady excellent mount.
I have also had no problems with the springfield gen3.It was a little more difficult to mount. There have been folks haveing these mounts loosen off. I used blue loc tite and wraped the slotted mounting knobs with emery cloth and used a pair off slotted pliers and really torqued them on(much tighter than you could get with a screw driver)and have had zero problems with the mount.
I believe the arms 18 to be a superior mount,if thats what your dealer is stocking I wouldn't wait another six weeks.

I have pretty much used them all and I say go with the Smith Enterprises mount.

Sits higher then the ARMS mount, but has more rail area to mount optics, and gives you more clearance above the action openning for ejected cases.

SKBY.

i have an arms 18 and i have been impressed with it so far. it sits low enough as to not take away from the sleek look of the m14, yet i have had no issues with casings causing stopages. the fact that it is steel over the springfield alluminum makes it a better mount....but you obviously have to pay a bit more for it. i have heard great things about the smith mount...but the very high price tag put it out of my reach being even more pricy then the arms 18.

What is the approximate costs between all these mounts?
I'll start, the mounts that Hungry speaks of are listed at the SmithEnterprises website with the following prices:

5" long mount $275 USD

Crazy Horse 7" long mount w/NSN military stock # $325 USD
Crazy Horse 7" w/o miltary number stampings $260 USD

ACOG scope mount $325 USD
I'll probably never have the budget for an ACOG scope so I'm thinking of getting the 7" non-mil stamped Crazy Horse (it's in the discountinued/bargain bin area on their web site)

Anyone want to provide the ARMS and Springfield prices?

I got my arms 18 new (from the usa) for about 200$cnd after exchange. I think that is a bit less then you can get them here in canada. (around 260$ I think??)
