Clever engineering. Quite simple in action, but it must have been tricky to conceptualize.

I've seen the big demonstration models here and there. Pullens outside Victoria has (IIRC) a huge plastic BAR model hanging from the ceiling.

Like most Army manuals of the era, they are almost guaranteed to put you to sleep.
Once while watching some Danish #### flics in the Mess tent during a break in the 4 CMBG Brigade Concentration exercises, one wag (obviously a vehicle mechanic) brought the house down with his comments done in the universal monotone voice of an Army training film:
"You will not on this model how close the intake is to the exhaust ...." ;>) I guess you had to be there .....
