What size is the Hex set screw on the flash hider?
I have tried all the ones in my collection and i cant find one that fits.
I don't think my local cambodian tire would enjoy me dragging my rifle into the store to find the right one.

It's the most peculiar size, never quite got it exactly, always just use something close and works fine. Once you get that and then castle nut off, it might be sticky (odds are), use a torch to heat it then drive it off with a brass rod and hammer, or a piece of heavy wall copper pipe etc. Heating it saves a lot of grief.

it's a 5/64s- according to the m14 armourers manual it's supposed to be a 5/64s , and i just checked it against my 305 and a 5/64th jewellers screwdriver fits right in and bottoms-if yours is bigger, it's been fiddled with- incidnetally, the front sight hex is 7/64- if you do resize this, be sure and take into account the differences between the chinese and usgi castle nuts- the spacing between the blocks on the castle nut may be different, and that's where the set screw has to go to do it's job- it's there to stop the castle nut from turning

Wouldn't ChiCom stuff be in metric sizes? Did you try a set of metric hex keys?
Pretty much a required tool in your chest any more.
then only thing metric on the 305 is the castle nut and the maybe the barrel thread as far as i know- the pins are different sizes, etc, but remember it's all built on imperial blues and specs-
