Hi everyone,

I am using the Arc Angel Promag stock on my Norinco M-305. I am having trouble with scope mounts.

Wondering what some people are using?

Thanks.

I just ordered the m14.ca aluminum mount (has a Backup sight that is rudimentary). THe steel one is an extra $100 (plus tax) and I could not justify the cost. I have read up a fair bit and it seems that the aluminum one is plenty strong. Seemed like the best value for the money and easy to order being in Canada. Got an email right after I placed the order saying it would be in the post today. I paid $170 with shipping and tax. Arms 18 is another $100 (plus tax) as well. The thing that sold the m14.ca was the use of the rear sight for grounding the entire thing--seems to be the most stable way to do it. . .sure you lose the rear sight, but I bought another one to shoot with irons so I don't care.

Just trying to figure out what to mount on it. Was thinking of tinkering with a cheap red dot from tasco for kicks ($50) or a 4X32 trace optics Acog. . .no idea how good those are though. The other option was to bite the bullet and get a Redfield 3X9 or 4x12.

M14.ca looks good so far. Glad to hear someone already ordered from them. This is the first I have heard of them. Products look nice though.

I just picked up (but have yet to install) a Promag copy of the old ARMS 18 split rail mount, think it was <$150.00 shipped from Jerry at Mystic Precision a great CGN sponsor.
Seems rock solid and straight, and you get to keep your irons.

Had I known about the Promag copy I might have given it a try. . .the thing about the Arms 18 mount that I was worried about is that my Norinco m14 might be a "bit out of spec" and the 3 points of contact where the mount fits the gun might be compromised. I also read some reviews/issues with ejection of brass--and the price was prohibitive--I mean the mount is $300, the gun was $500 (?!).

My further 2cents for what it's worth--removing the back sights provides a large/stable area for mounting and this seems like a more modern scope mount design with better consideration for the shortcomings of the m14 platform (like the fact that the mounting points on the m14 aren't that good to begin with). That being said, Arms 18 seems to have been around for years so it must be good, and one would assume that any copies of it are built to the same tolerances (again, that's an assumption, and ymmv (your mileage may vary). I have no experience with either. Good luck.

I have had good luck with Smith Enterprises. You have to take your time on installing, and make sure everything is seated and aligned properly.

Pres. . .did you get the steel or aluminum one from m14.ca? I think mine should be arriving today. I will likely install on the weekend and maybe post my impressions here.

I opted for the aluminum m14.ca mount and have yet to find a fault with it. Make sure you use some locktite (it comes with a small tube) or eventually it may rattle loose.

Seagonis, I've got 230 through it now. We'll see if it holds up past 1000. I don't see why it won't. Scope is a bushnell elite 4200 2.5-10 × 40. Did the stock myself :)
