M!4 problem with 5 round mag

One of my mags, a 5 rounder, seems to have a much higher resistance to stripping a cartridge out of it, and is far more prone to failure to feed the second round. The round simply doesn't get pushed very far or get stripped out of the mag. Neither of the pinned high capacity mags have this problem. What should I be looking for in spotting the problem with this 5 rounder. Is it spring tension, or some dimensional problem with the lips of the mag?

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree. I put a couple of rounds in each mag this morning and they look identical. Just not sure why I had failure to feed problems with the 5 rounder and not with the 20 rounder.

it's in the mag itself- i've got a bunch of 5 round springfields that are unreliable like that- more precisely it's either the follower or the spring and my money would be on the spring- if both 1 and 2 were giving problems, i'd say to take the mag apart and stretch the spring a bit, but just number 2 . i don't know- anyway, you need at least 6 mags for the m14 series, all 20 rounders- why, because 1 it's designed for it and looks cool 2 that stupid 5 rounder doesn't give you anything to grab on mag changes( i have to get mine out with a screwdriver after tripping the mag release) 3 they're unreliable
in short, the only reason i have 5 rounders is because kim campbell said she was going to confiscate all the over 5's away back when- if i ever go hunting again or somewhere i have to guarentee my shots, i'll take a 20- or a reliable 5 to keep the c/o's happy- i was told by 2 sources that 1 if they see a mag sticking out of the gun they'll confiscate based on looks alone, then i was told by a c/o that they have a tool ( probably a stick) that they insert into the mag to see actually how many it'll hold- this was after i spent 250 to get 5 rounders from springfield

If they are checking mag capacity, its a fine line between pinning one for 5 vs can slip a 6th round into the mag.

I can't say I'm happy with the ease of inserting and removing 5 round mags, especially in cold weather.

yea, i know- i had a heck of a time pinning mine as every length of dowel was different- even between the same manufacturer- took weeks to do em all-got em way back when usgi was 5/75 niw- when i was done some were 4's some were 5's but none were 6's

I have one 5 rounder that I never use anymore...way to damn hard to get it out of the rifle. The 3 times that I did use it I did not have any problems but like I said I only used it 3 times before it got retired. I have 4 5/20 mags and I will be getting more when I get down to Al Simmons next.

I do check the mags to make sure that a sixth round will not fit in when I get them home and cleaned up. I do not want some over eager new KW Police officer to attempt it then charge me.
