MODS-please move this to (gunsmithing?) if you feel it doesn't belong here.

Hey guys-not sure if this is the correct spot to ask the question, but I was recently asked to look at a Gen.1, M+M M10X-M 7.62x39 that has cycling issues. The owner is a friend who has tried all types of ammo, issue (as described) is that it'll usually shoot/eject a couple of rounds before about round #3 doesn't eject. I can see the charging handle has been whacked a few times, it's slightly deformed in a direction that suggests buddy was trying to get the action to open rearward. As described, they could ultimately get the charging handle back, but usually the case was stuck in the chamber. My buddy is calling it a paper weight, as he did take it for warranty service (won't name the place), they checked it out and said it was fine. (?) He said he's not sure they did anything, gun behaved exactly the same way upon return.

I've had SKSs apart a number of times with no issues and think I understand the workings of this gun in principle, but also remember reading negative comments about the quality/reliability of these too. (in the context of the release of the newer versions, CGN members commenting, etc) I like to believe there is a remedy, because I also like to believe manufacturers get the kinks worked out before offering a product for sale. With this gun, I'm asking the question first, in case people with more knowledge than me have put enough effort into one of these to say either;

1-the fix is ________
2-it is a paper weight=don't bother

Obviously, I'd like to help my buddy if I can!

Thanks

All I can suggest is if you figure it out, let M&M know about it!

I would be contacting the importer and asking them for answers.... they are making money importing and distributing these guns, they should be willing to help fix problems.

Gen 1 can easily be upgraded according to the new warranty centre, Calgary shooting centre.

Tell him to sell it and buy a type 81

Why. My m10x is flawless. As long as you use decent ammo.
It has a weak hammer spring to keep a low trigger pull and doesn't like the harder primers in surplus. I've yet to have a single jam using Norinco non corrosive.
Still trying to find time to install an AK hammer spring which should fix that issue.
Otherwise throw a couple o rings on charging handle so it doesn't fall out by accident... Otherwise m10 is a good gun. Good fit and finish. Customer service is non existent.... I would never buy a single thing again from that company just for how pathetic it is.

You have an adjustable gas block on that gun, did you try a different setting?

This experience is a lucky one. A friend of mine had one of these and it would not feed thru a single magazine for him without having a failure. Didn’t matter what ammo or settings were used.

If the cases are getting stuck... either you have a bad extractor... or a bad chamber....

It it cycles rounds find by hand and if you remove the bolt and seat a case manually and pull on it straight and it doesnt let go.. its probably not the extractor... but do look at it for damage... make sure its not missing a chunk or the lip isnt rounded... or god forbid... missing the tension spring (ive seen people loose the spring on semi autos and try to run without it)

If the extractor seems good...

Open it up, grab a dental pick (or a stiff wire with a short bent 90 at the end) rake the chamber walls with light presure... it it snags or you feel bumps the only remedy is a new barrel or a trip to the gun smith to get it reemed.... unforchantly if its a depressed ring in the chamber... its a new barrel....
I had a ruger mini 14 with this issue... it would often rip cases cleanly in half... only took mailing it to snap shots twice for them to change the barrel for me...
