I am trying to decide on buying either a Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 or one of those Pietta's PPS-50 so any input would be appreciated. I have heard that quite a few years ago the 22 version of a PPSH had quite a few problems ranging from the magazine to the sear. For appearance and convenience of shooting with friends and the farm, I am partial to the PPS-50 but for past problems of it I am thinking of the 15-22. Unfortunately since the 15-22 is restricted I can only take it to the range. Does anyone know if there are problems with either the PPS-50 or the M&P 15-22? Any other comments?

Side by side i'd take the 15-22. But the fact that it's restricted makes me want the PPS-50. Plus drum mags are always good to have :D

buzz...I have the newer Pietta PPS-50 with sythetic stock.
My 13yr old son loves shooting this rifle. The 50 round drum keeps him happy although it takes a while to load.
The rifle's been problem free with a few FTE's when it was new but none lately. Some FTF's per drum seem to be ammo related (noticeable rim strikes)
If you plan on getting one look for the wood stock version. Although the fit and finish of the metal parts are good I find the synthetic stock too plastic and cheap looking.
The non=restricted status could be a plus.
