I've been trying to decide on what AR I should get but there doesn't seem to be much stock around. I want a adj stock and the option to put optics on it.

Has anyone tried one, how's the fit and finish?

How much of the parts are compatible with AR stuff (mags, 22 con.)

I don't know about "can't shoot 5.56" as before the internet came along people shot both 5.56 and .223 interchangeably but the point is the majority of stores carry .223 whereas 5.56 NATO is pretty hard to find.

I bought one last week and my initial impressions were:

What was the fit and finish like ? - very good. Way better than Imperial Defence and, from the samples I saw in shopping, better than the Bushmaster. Here I am taking into account only two factors; appearance and play between the upper and lower - nothing else.

What was included in deal ? - two stocks. Fitted with the traditional rifle stock but included in a separate package was an adjustable telescopic stock. 5 mins and the stocks were changed. Also included was a hard case ( I'm guessing that's standard )

What I didn't like ? - the pistol grip wasn't too comfortable for my hands. $29 later and 5 mins with an Allen key and the grip was replaced with a very very comfortable ( for my paw ) Houge aftermarket one.

What others may not like ? - no flash hider. No biggie to me but, as said, others may not like this.

What did it shoot like ? I had it out last Saturday with 55g and 62 g American Eagle .223 and it processed both with no ftf or any other problems. I used the iron sights and all I can really say is that they were on paper from the factory and I was able to hit targets out to 100 - this wasn't an accuracy test just a 'does it work properly' test. I will put optics on in a week or so and see what accuracy I can get.

Do I like it ? Sure, I got a little more than I was expecting and it worked just great. The prices ( when compared to bolt guns ) are out of whack for AR's but that is just the market for you. If you want tack driving accuracy I am going to guess this ain't for you but if you want an AR then I'd say this seems like a good buy.
 
It's a great buy if you don't mind the barrel. If that's a problem you can always get it threaded and add a Flash hider later.
 
Isn't the M&P 15 a Stag that's branded for S&W with their logos?

Is the collapsing stock also marked M&P, or is it an aftermarket stock from another manufacturer (is it a Mil-Spec buffer tube?)
 
The S&W Ar's initially were STAG guns. S&W now make most of their components in house. An in SPEC AR is an in SPEC AR. Brand isn't overly important. Stag, RRA, Armalite, Colt, S&W, LMT, Niveske, Sabre Defense, CMMG, etc etc will all serve you well. Don't feed it cheap sh*t(questionable sources of ammo, the cheap American eagle is great), don't f*ck with the internals and keep it lubed.

Don't try to give it a trigger job, or to "slick up" the bolt release, mag release or anything inside (especially the lower). Use a wet lube and run everything but the buffer damp (don't lube the buffer), if you're shooting a lot and notice the recoil pattern changes, spray it with lube and continue.
