Guys, am I the only one getting Failure to Extract malfunctions with this gun?

The extractor is connected to such a light spring that I can flick it back and forth with my finger. No other model of gun, .22 or not seems to have that light of an extractor spring.

I bought one of the first m&p .22's last fall from SFRC, and have not seen another at the range ever... Finally saw a new one at Williams today and asked to see it just so I could flick the extractor. Turns out after thousands and thousands of rounds, mine feels just like a brand new one.

Is this a known issue? Is polishing up the chamber an option to relieve a bit of space, or is there a heavier spring that would fix it?

I have bought every type of .22 round available from low velocity up to cci stingers. It fails with all when it feels like it.
The gun can shoot 4 mags straight and be fine, then all of a sudden a fired casing gets stuck and I need to pop it out with my knife before the extractor will grab it.
It does it less after a fresh cleaning, but it has also still malfunctioned shortly after being cleaned.

I haven't contacted SFRC or S&W yet.
I'd rather fix it myself as I don't want to ship it off for several months. It works, just not that well!

Thoughts???

No issues like that with mine but I've been too busy to shoot it much lately. Only have 1500 rds through it. The only time its failed to extract is one time I put a fired casing in the chamber so I could drop the hammer. It didn't like that.

Hows the edge on the extractor? maybe its chipped or rounded off.

Extractor is sharp.
When the fired casing is jammed in the chamber, it takes a fair bit of force with the edge of a knife to pop it out.

Bought mine in 2012. Feed it Fed525 &cci mini mags. 4k rounds through, no jams, two FTFs due to rem golden duds, never had an extraction problem. I clean it after each session, but haven't polished a thing.

I wouldn't recommend firing stingers through it, though.

I have a M&P22 but I haven't had the same experience as you. I've put maybe 1k through mine, only cleaned it twice and it has only had maybe....a dozen malfunctions? Some of those were dud rounds even. It has easily been the most reliable .22 pistol I have.

On the other had my GSG has had similar problems. Like you I tried different ammos and the same problem kept coming up. What did seem to make the difference though was changing to a different cleaning solution. The last couple of cleanings I've used Remington Brite Bore and it seemed to have made all the difference. I was using Froglube before as I wanted use non-toxic chemicals.

^Might give that Brite Bore a try.

I'm not big on cleaning guns to be honest, but I keep this one pretty clean because it just won't work at all if I don't. The slide has trouble cycling once a bit of carbon mixes in with the lube.
Maybe I have to be more diligent with keeping the chamber spotless.

I've has some FTE problems with my M&P22 however...1] Only been to the range a few times with mine; 2] Gun seems particularly unhappy with Federal AE ammo; 3] I expect some break-in problems with a new gun, esp. a .22, and 4] I've never seen a .22 autoloader that was 100% reliable.

Finally, I wonder if there might be some storage grease somewhere gumming up the extractor a bit. This might not be your problem, but if you haven't checked it out, it might be something to look at. My gun had a lot of nasty oily residue all over it, although it didn't seem to hurt anything right off the bat [I shot mine right out of the box, no cleaning at all...]
