Good day fellow firearms enthusiasts of CGN. I am in the market to add a new pistol to the ever growing collection of 22's. I currently have a Single Six ,one of those reduced sized Browning 1911's and a Mark 3 Hunter. Between the M&P and the PPQ what do you guys think is the better firearm of the 2 and why ? Any feedback or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the specs of the M&P or the PPQ but I've shot the M&P in 9mm and it wasn't bad at all. I personally went with a P226 "classic" because for 300$ I can get a 9mm slide and voila, I have 2 calibers in the same handgun. The SIG is very accurate and very quick to shoot as well. Either way, you gotta love being able to shoot all day for 30$.

The M&P22 and PPQ22 are actually BOTH made by Walther and share the same internals. Both are internal hammer-fired therefore neither is striker-fired like it's 9mm big brother. Still, both are well made, so it really comes down to what you like better. The Sig 226 is a great if you can find ammo it likes. My buddy's p226 was very fussy.

I have a M&P9 and an M&P22, they're both great to shoot and quite accurate.

My M&P22 shoots everything (full disclosure, Sellier&Bellot .22lr appear to be slightly wider - slowing the action somewhat, the m&p22 fired them and cycled, but a couple of them slowed the action enough to stove pipe). Even subsonics were totally fine.

The two combined even with extra mags were cheaper than a Sig P226 with conversion kit from what I can tell.

I like to fire each at the same target before bringing it in, you can quite easily distinguish the holes from each calibre.

I just got the ppq .22 last night (Thanks! Canada Ammo) it feels great in the hand and the trigger is absolutely unbelievable.
I haven't shot it yet but I already like it more then my SIG P226 Classic, I will absolutely buy at least 2 more PPQs (9mm and 45). Now to find more 22 mags :p

Check.

... and share the same internals.

Hmmm, okay ... go on.

Both are internal hammer-fired therefore neither is striker-fired like it's 9mm big brother.

To quote Walther: The sculpted grip meshes smoothly into the hand. The trigger is the finest ever on a polymer, striker-fired handgun.

Sure you weren't thinking of the Walther P-22 Target?
(or perhaps their web people were just cutting and pasting from the 9mm specs)

While the P22 has an external hammer, and the PPQ M2 .22LR has an internal one, I hope Walther is not lying to use with their adverts / propaganda,
and it really is striker fired.

(the carl-walther.de website states it a little differently: (features) two independent safeties: automatic striker safety and mechanical drop safety, integrated in the trigger blade.)

I personally prefer the ergonomics and fit of the PPQ M2 over the M&P22, yet not having fired either in 22LR, I can comment no further.
Having said that, a 5" PPQ M2 in 22LR is now at the top of my shopping list!

Umm... no. The PPQ22 has an internal hammer, which can be clearly seen here:

It is described in this review: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/08/jeremy-s/gun-review-walther-ppq-m2-22-lr/

OK, so I stand corrected.

With this Walther on my shopping list, I dug into it a bit further. Some reviews online state it is indeed not striker-fired like its 9mm siblings;
these reviews were all of the 4.6" (threaded, and according to IRUNGUNS, possibly prohibited in Canada due to the barrel construction).

Some reviews of the updated 5" units state they are.

Until I see a 5" unit stripped right down, I will not know for sure, yet this does not change its priority on the list!
(even though the quality of the M&P is on par, it just does not fit my hands as well as the Walther).

The Walther PPQ 22 has an internal hammer. I also measured my barrel at 106 millimetres without the thread adapter so the one I got from Canada Ammo is restricted.
It has a great feel and I love mine already.
