M&P 22 question?

Hi,

I'm really interested in the M&P 22. I have a quick question in regards to the barrel length. I heard that S&W had to extend the barrel length on the Canadian models to comply with our standards?

If so, how much longer are our barrels then the American version?

I have also went to many site sponsors and looked at pictures of their M&P 22's, some sites pictures show the barrels flush with the end of the slide, others show a little bit of the barrel sticking out? I'm assuming the pictures showing the barrels sticking out slightly are the Canadian models, and the pistols pictured with the barrel flush we're the American model that was used on Canadian sites? If so, that kind of sucks and takes away from the cosmetics in my opinion (stupid Canadian 4.14" limit!). And i don't understand why the 9mm 40.s&w etc have longer barrels?

Canadian model?

I haven't looked at mine for awhile but I'm pretty sure that the barrel is the same length as the US version. They made the bushing at the end of the barrel longer to extend it out. So when you measure from the bushing it becomes a restricted length. The barrel is not flush with the end of the bushing either. The US version has a different looking bushing. Also, these are made by Walther and the barrels are integrated into the frame.

Its been so long since i have seen mine since its been out for repairs for 16 months i don't remember but what Jackrabbit says seems to be what i recall.
Good luck if it ever breaks is all i have to say

Thanks RJ.

Do you know if the center fire M&P barrels protrude in a similar way? Are they the same pistols for the Canadian market? Or have they been built with longer
barrels as well?

The center fire models are striker-fired and made by S&W. The MP22 is internal-hammer fired and made by Walther. Thus the barrel-length differences.

i dont think there is a 'canadian version' i think the pic's on the S&W site are just cropped off at the end.
im gonna run up and get mine out and measure it to compare it to the length of the ones listed on their webpage.

i shall return!

interesting.
S&M lists all three of the M&P22 as having barrel lengths of 4.1" / 10.4cm

i just measured mine, 10.6cm (106mm) 4.17", so we have an added 2mm of barrel.
either S&W just dosnt add the 2mm onto their write up on the american side or we do have a extra 2mm on ours.
very interesting.

Thanks for the pics. I'm pretty sure our Canadian models do have a couple more mm's after doing some more research since posting this thread.

wayupnorth is it possible to take a picture of what yours looks like with the slide on? So I can see what the barrel looks like from a personal picture rather then in an add. That would be great!
