Hey,

My M&P 22 has recently started to hang up every so often during its cycling. (I've tried multiple types of ammo, so I've ruled that out).

The piece of metal shown here (Probably the ejector?), seems to be the culprit, in fact there is a wear mark forming and a very small indent too. The two rivets that hold it onto the frame seem a little loose, and therefore the piece has some play, forward backward and side to side. When the mag gets inserted it bumps this ejector piece a bit and sometimes its moved just enough to make contact with the edge of the bolt face. This sucks all the energy out of the spring (and its only a weak .22 spring to begin with) and the slide doesn't fully close. I then need to manually push the slide about 1/8" to 1/4" forward to fully close it.

Is there a way to address this problem?

Appreciate the help, any more details needed let me know.

The rivets should not be loose nor allow for any play.
On my m&p22, the rivets are pretty tight and the ejector has no play other than go up and down.

This is where I would start my troubleshooting

The rivets likely became loose due to the contact from the magazine hitting it that you've noticed. Or it may have come loose simply from being hit by all those empty casings it had to toss out of the gun. But either way the rivets need to be tightened up. And if the mag still connects I'd remove a little kiss worth of metal so the mag cannot batter against the tab when being seated.

I'd suggest that the ejector is misshapen as well but if the gun cycled OK originally then likely the ejector has become loose due to the magazine hitting it as you mentioned.

With it being loose now it's also being kicked around so it rubs against the slide and as you say any friction in a .22 is often enough to prevent it fully seating a round and returning to battery. So the fix is to secure that ejector correctly and in a way that it does not rub the slide at all.

It's likely to be fussy work. If you're a handy sort and trust yourself then great. If not I'd suggest it's time for warranty work or a trip to the local gunsmith if the gun is out of the warranty period.
