I hope this isn't too much of a newbie question but here goes anyway.

I'm just getting into the sport and I have decided on a M&P9.

I also want to get into reloading so can anyone inform me on the pros and cons of shooting lead vs jacketed bullets only?

I know the economics of 9mm reloading may be questionable but this won't be my only firearm purchase!

I don't like shooting lead because it makes cleaning more difficult. Plus don't like the extra smoke that comes from shooting lead.

M&P will handle lead bullets just fine tho. Personally I go with copper plated, cheaper than FMJ and a lot cleaner than lead.

Shoot plated if the price diff is small.

Casting your own lead bullets save a lot but proper lead is hard to find these days.

I'd go plated unless your really trying to save $, then go with lead, but you might need to clean your gun a little more often. I started reloading with lead and found that I just like plated way more for ease of reloading and cleaner shooting. Just my personal preference though really.
