I've moved over to the 1911 and sig club and don't shoot my M&P 9 much anymore. I've always been a fence sitter with that trigger type. The pistol is fantastic, but the trigger kept me on the fence.

The othe day I was able to shoot the pro version and fell in love with the trigger upgrade.

My questions:

1. does anyone know if and where you can buy a pro trigger upgrade?

2. Has anyone upgraded the trigger on their own with success?

Thanks to all the put in their two cents!

I've used both the Apex competition set up and the "duty" set up, at one point my M&P9's trigger broke around 2 lbs. It's quite a bit higher than that now. There are an amazing number of ways to set up an M&P trigger by changing various spring tensions and polishing or replacing a few parts. I'd recomend you get the Apex DCAEK, for most people that is all they need to make the M&P much more shootable. The take up is still there, but the break is clean and just under 4 Lbs. If you want to be able to 'feel' the reset more clearly, use a pair of needle nose pliers and VERY GENTLY move (bend) the trigger bar a VERY SMALL (almost imperceptible amount) toward the centr line of the pistol.

Installed my Apex trigger kit on Friday and am very happy with it. I didn't install the trigger spring with the kit so my trigger pull is about 4-4.5 pounds and it breaks clean. Shot 50 rounds yesterday and it was a amazing change! Got mine from Brownell's for about $94 shipped. Took about 2 weeks to arrive.

I'm thinking about ordering one... Will I need to take if to a smith, or is it something I may be able to do myself.. I've only taken apart triggers in rifles, never a pistol.

It's not bad to do...Youtube is your friend (as is CGN) if you get stuck. The kit is worth the money!!

Apex has a series of videos with step by step instruction. I got everything installed except the USB since I had my rear sight replaced by a gunsmith and the set screw is fubar.

I put in the Apex Sear and Striker Block all on my own, at a computer desk. In less than 30 minutes...

Was super easy and holy damn is my trigger nice now.

The M&P is a great pistol to work on, very easy, very logical. If you wanted to have every tool you need to do every job you can reasonably do, you'd need about 5 tools. In the real world to do the trigger job, you should have; a punch, a hammer, a slave pin and a sight pusher and a small allen key. The sight pusher and slave pin come with the Apex kit. If you get stuck for a punch remember when the manual describes the thing that holds your grip panel on as a "Frame Tool" ? - Yup, it's the right size to drive the major pins that need removal.
