M&P 9mm - mags won't drop free when the gun is cold - any solutions?

I was at the range this past weekend and the temps were a little below freezing. I noticed that the mags in my M&P 9mm would not drop free under those conditions.

At home in the warm house, no hang ups but after getting the gun and mags cold again in the freezer, same problem. It seems like the grip/mag well is shrinking with the cold and squeezing in on the mags.

Has anybody else run into this and is there a solution to the problem with this particular pistol? (I will not accept "get a Glock" as solution :))

Is this with all your mags? I would try to find out exactly where it's binding, some mags can swell with use.

Have you ever cleaned the magwell and grip opening? Powder residue can buildup inside the grip of a pistol and lead to sticky spots. I periodically run a big oily (WD40) rag through the magwell of the grip out the top to clean. Follow with a dry rag to clean up the oil.
 
Materials contract in the cold , expand with heat.... Magwell contracts in cold ? Makes sense to me. At just just about freezing mark any dampness could cause frost / sticking
 
I had my mp 9 out this weekend if was -10 and mags dropped fine. That being said the mags on my gsg 22 sometimes stuck
 
Mags tend to bulge outward on the sides, simple cure is to place them in a vice and lightly apply pressure then check both fit in the pistol and that rounds fit and feed properly. As with all tuning, analyze and adjust cautiously.
 
I haven't had this problem with mine but I'd suggest a thorough cleaning and perhaps spray the mag well area with silicone - dry but slippery.
 
I may try tuning the mags a bit. That seems logical and simple, plus with the temp in my garage, I can keep everything cold while I do it so it's easy to test a lot.

Mags and gun are dry and clean by the way. Of my 4 range mags, one seems to continue to drop free, the rest not so much. I'll check to mine with calipers too to see if there is much of a variance in width and depth.
 
Probably more an issue with the polymer frame material than the mags. I know that the fully loaded mags in my PX4 Storm will not drop free in really cold temps. The mags all drop freely in "normal" temperatures though. I would suggest that this is something you will have be aware of and deal with when changing mags in cold weather. I don't think trying to change the dimensions of your mags with a vice is a very good option.
