M&P 9mm

I've been looking at the pro series as well. Do you guys know if it has the mag disconnect safety? Any mods that be done to get rid of it?

Th PRO does not have the magazine disconnect.

Models which have the disconnect may be modified. Whether such a modification is permitted (under sporting rules) or even advisable (for legal reasons) is another matter entirely.

It's a personal choice.

So what's so bad about the pistol not firing with no mag? I don't get it...

If I have to unload and "show clear" at the end of a stage, I don't want to then have to insert a magazine into my pistol to "hammer down" and I don't want to have to make a point of having an empty magazine for that purpose.

I don't want to disable a safety device on a pistol. I don't want to be disqualified from a sport for having a pistol with a deactivated safety device, and I sure don't want to have to listen to a prosecutor tell a jury that I'd disabled a safety device on a pistol.

I don't want to have to explain to a new shooter that this pistol works differently than all of the other pistols that we're familiar with. I don't want a new shooter to ever become conditioned to believe that a pistol is safe just because the magazine has been removed.

I've been in situations where I was lacking a magazine, but I was still able to fire a single chambered round. And I don't ever want to be in a situation where I need my pistol to fire my chambered round, but I cannot - because I do not have a magazine in the pistol.

If you like it, great, buy it. If you want it on all of your pistols, great, more power to you, buy it on all of your pistols.

Me, I want my pistols to be as similar as possible. Magazine release in the same place, the same sights, the manual safety in the same place (if it has one), and to fire when I want it to.
