M&P9: Is this normal

Last weekend I went to the range. It was my third time out with my Smith & Wesson M&P9. Today while cleaning it I noticed the chip in the red circle of the picture.

It seems to be part of the frame or trigger assembly. Now this could be part of the design but I don't remember seeing this. I tried to find pictures of a frame assembly but could not find any. So is this part the MP9 design, normal wear or something I should be contacting Smith & Wesson about?

Thanks in advance for all your help

Doesn't look normal to me.

I believe that is the locking block for the barrel, and should be pretty strong. That isn't where you would expect to see any damage though.

I might be concerned it is weakened somehow, and would definitely look into replacing it. Should be relatively simple, and likely under warranty.

Here are the pictures of the barrel. The barrel doesn't appear to have any damage.
I hope this is what you wanted to see.
Thanks for the info on the oil. I only put one drop of oil on the seven points that the OM says. I'll try to put less in the future

Looks to me you didn't install the recoil spring properly. Yes you are using to much oil. All you need is a small drop of oil on the seven spots indicated in the manual.

I would get hold of the repair center the part should be replaced.

I just took mine apart and although it does have a little divot where yours does, it is no where near as jagged or pronounced. Mine has tonnes of rounds thru it.

I would email a pic or two to MD Charleton or Wortners and see what they say.

BTW- don't worry too much about the oil, just when it starts to drip into the trigger group it can cause dirt to build up. (despite the incorrect post above stating that there can't be too much)

Thanks guys. I'll be in contact with S&W tomorrow. Hopefully there easy to deal with.

As for the oil, like I said I only put a drop of hoppe's gun oil on the seven spots. Maybe the drops coming out if the bottle are too big. I'll attempt to put smaller ones.
