A friend's dad passed and left him with a nice condition M1 .30 cal. 18" bbl, Underwood Elliot-Fisher Mfg.

Roughly speaking, how much would he expect to sell it for, and is there much interest in these any more?

You see these going in the $650-$750 range nowadays. I bought a stone-mint one in 1965 for $75 which was a pretty good slice of a paycheck at that time.
There is a dedicated following for m1 Carbines. An 18" barrel makes it a restricted firearm. Folks can have an aftermarket 18" plus longer barrel installed to de-restrict them, but this would detract from the collector appeal/value.
