Any M1 Carbine at 550 is a deal, assuming it is in decent shape etc...
They usually go 600 and up, the folding stock if original is worth over 300. I'd grab it up.
You can get cheap .30 Carbine ammo from tulammocanada.com

Just to be sure we are talking about the same thing, the original side folding WW2 USGI paratrooper stock is worth over 300, maybe about 500? (modern Italian reproduction copies go for about 300), there are also other kinds of aftermarket folding stocks, underfolders with pistol grips etc... they are not that valuable. If you do some google searching you'll find out which one you are looking at.

What's an 'older replacement stock'? Makes a difference. The trick is being sure a folder is not a repro. There are lots of 'em out there. There are lots of folders that are not repro's too. Real issue para-stocks are worth a fortune and aren't exactly common in Canada. One of 'em sold last May on one of the U.S. auction sites for $600 US. Mind you, since 1978, Carbine stuff and Carbines have gone way down in value, here, due to the Carbine being restricted. You can't shoot 'em anywhere but a range and there's no hunting with it.
Oh and military issue kit does not fit on most commercial carbines.

lots of non-restricted ones out there. I don't think prices have gone down much, bought one in 80ish for 144$ from SIR. no reason you cant hunt small game with them ether, I do and lots of others do aswell
