I was wondering if anyone knows of a source where one could get one of these barrels. I love the M1's, and I'd like one in this calibre, as I stumbled across a bag of 120 5.7mm spitfire rounds at the Orangeville gun show for $10. I know there are no real advantages to it, I just want it :). Anyone know where to get one?

I don't mean to be rude, but it's not just for 120 rounds. That's just what started the idea. I'll make more on my own.

Numrich in the states used to have the barrels, not sure if they still do, but it would be the first place I would check (IIRC they also used to have loaded ammo at one time).

I built my own version using a 30 m1 action and converted it to a bolt action repeater. I got a reamer from clymer, dies from rcbs and bought 224 barrel with a bad throut leaving me about 19 inches of good metel. As a dedicated reloader I find this system good, it does anything a K-hornet can achieve plus the factory clips work so well. Converting the brass is a one-step process and the mortallity rate is near zero, TX Harold

Clymer should have the reamers.

Nice project, and brass can be converted straight from surplus .30 Carbine stuff..... use up everyone else's range-day throwaways.

Ran into a barrel like this once, in a gun shop in Spokane, but that was a lotta years ago.

ha surplus .30 carbine ammo good luck with that one....

is no surplus .30 carbine ammo anymore in canada and new stuff is expensive and most guys save there brass to relaod

you wont be able to import any m1 carbine parts from the usa the m1 is on the NO export list

7.62x25mm is possible i have one but never used it got it from lever years ago by mistake seems the chinese converted some when .30 carbine ammo ran out not sure about the mag it did come with one but like i said i never tried it out

It'll be an expensive proposition.
Gunparts wants $196.80US for an 18" barrel. Not much use to you. They list an Iver Johnson barrel too. Call 'em about its length.
You'll need a complete set of headspace guages, a barrel vise and action wrench and a finishing reamer(rent it) too. 4-D Products lists reamers (not the vise or wrench though) for rent under .22 Spitfire. Rental fee is $30US with a $100US deposit. Usually on a CC.
Ask 'em about the headspace guages.
"...converted straight from surplus .30 Carbine..." Requires a forming die. A Redding forming die runs $63.99US. RCBS loading dies run $142.99US.
There's some load data here. http://www.reloadbench.com/cartridges/wmmj57mm.html

I shoot where a lot of military-type matches are shot, pick up Carbine brass on occasion, also buy bags at gun shows. It makes into a real nice little Rimless BEE, size it down in one step with a .218 seater die, looks really nice. I use them for keychains, really cute.
