Hi guys. What is the difference in barrel length between a non-restricted M1 carbine and a restricted M1 carbine? Are aftermarket non-restricted barrels readily available? Just wondering what the difference in barrel length is and if it's a big deal to convert a restricted M1 to non-restricted.

Jon

1. The standard barrel length on an M1 carbine is 18" (Wikipedia or Google)
2. 1/2" difference between R and NR.
3. Lots of people have done this before, so yes, it is relatively easy to have done.
4. The M1 carbine is not a Main Battle Rifle (the Milsurp forum is the proper place to post questions about them)

M1 carbine

Thanks guys for the info. I didn't realize it was only a 1/2" of difference....
Sorry that I posted this on the wrong forum...
I appreciate your feedback.

a lot of people tried to "legitimize" their carbines way back when by simply adding a flashider- esp those clamp on things- that's WHY the wording was changed so it has to be 'one CONTINOUS barrel"of over 18.5 inches

At some point this summer New Non-Restricted Auto Ordinance .30 Cal M1 Carbines are going to be available as well as Non-Restricted .22lr copies by GSG!!!! Get one of each of those and you are good to go!

new non-restricted M1 carbines!

Really? That would be awesome, Ian. Any idea on what the Auto-Ordinance carbine would sell for and who would be selling them here in Canada?

Not sure what the "polymer Steel" cases are like, but I am going to find out! Just ordered 1000 rounds and I will post feedback when I can. At that price, it is getting into 9mm cost territory!! I do know that it will not be reloadable though. At that price, I don't care.
