There might be a m1 carbine for sale locally in a good price range for myself.
It could also be gone already :(
Plainfield made.

If the guy calls back and still has it, what should I be looking at when I go look at it before I make a decision to buy it.

I betcha he'll take $200 for it ;)...
I gave him what he wanted for it.
I'm happy, I get to poke around the milsurp forum now. :D

IF the mag catch is an m2 version it will have a support part to hold the side catch of the 30/5 rnd mag

will work fine without it in semiauto fullauto rattles the magazine around which is why they added the extra support

Most Plainfields had a birch stock, perforated metal handguard, and no bayonet lug. Looks as if yours has been upgraded with GI parts.
Some Plainfields have quite a few M2 parts - slide, bolt, trigger, sear. Plainfield made both M1s and M2s, used common parts in both.

Serial number is L###, seems pretty odd but I guess plainfield didn't care about serial numbers much.

I beleive it has that. I think. It has an M and a M which means it's the m2 latch?
oops I guess my mag catch has 2 Ms on it, one vertical, one horizontal. nothing underlined. I don't know what that means. But the 30rd magazine seems to function OK. Only can hold 5rds so there ain't much stress going on.
