M1 Carbine... extended bayonet lug for non-restricted barrels?

There are two many surplus or Asian manufactured one's around . But, America wont allow m1 carbine parts to be shipped to Canada

@Rylan,
I was wondering the same thing but then I stared thinking of getting a custom bayonet blade made instead. Something with a 1/2 longer tang and then making new grip plates for it. Reuse the pommel and tang.

@can14,
I just ordered a bunch of m1 carbine parts from the US, Northridge International inc and InterArms inc both ship to Canada.

I can get the band's... not so much the welding skills

Was also wondering if extending the length of the bayonet lug my cause it to be more of a weak point vs a slightly longer bayonet tang which would be helped by the grip slabs.

probably shouldn't have shipped ITAR prohibits the export of machinegun parts while the M1 carbine is semi automatic the parts DO fit on the M2 select fire carbine SO the Us wont allow M1 carbine parts to be exported

By that reasoning M1A PARTS couldn't leave the US either as they fit in the M14..
Also if you go to a site like Numrich the have a 'Part cannot be shipped outside of US' for all the MG34 parts I want but no such restriction for M1 Carbine parts.
Brownells also has M1 Carbine bits for sale and will ship to Canada.

I used to buy lots from various companies for very reasonable prices.
Then the US Government stopped it

I've always though of a bayonet on an M1 Carbine as something of a redundant exercise. But hey, our SMGs could also be fitted with a bayonet.:sok2

The barrel bands have an effect on accuracy, although the Carbine is no MOA shooter. Its said that the original "skinny" bands were the least conducive to accuracy. I've never shot one of these off the bench to test this. The second type (without barrel sleeve and bayo lug) is claimed to be the best. I've shot Carbines with the second and final types of barrel bands off the bench and didn't see much difference.

have you tried a regular bayonet? Usually the extra length is in front of the front site which sits in the usual spot. I have 3 different on restricted barrelsand std bayonet fits on all of them.

Yup. Have two different styles of M4 bayonet and both end up short. The tang on both would nd up flush with the back of the front sight if they were locked onto the bayonet lug.
I have two M1 carbine, a Winchester and one of the new Auto Ordnance. I just bought the bayonet lug and a NOS Korean stock because I had read the AO stocks were 1/2 inch shorter than USGI and I wanted to put a Ultimax rail on the AO.
Even with the longer stock the bayo is short.

I probably will just take an aftermarket M4 bayonet, the style with the screws holding on the scales and have someone cut the tang and add the length between the screws and then do some sort of modern hexagonal grip out of wood sized to fit.

Edit: Should have mentioned the Win has some aftermarket NR barrel. Don't know whose, it was done awhile ago. The Win is one of the ones that were used by the German police after WWII. Don't know if they did it or someone later.

Thought of that as well, the new slot would not be far enough back to be a new slot so it would be an extension. Therefore a new key would all so be needed that's long enough to go front to back of the new longer slot, but would need to be milled down enough in front of the sight band that it was flush with the barrel... would not leave a lot of meat there.
Of course you could move the sight back far enough that it was a complete new slot but on my barrels moving back that far would put the sight past the slight step in the barrel so that would need to be turned down as well. Plus now your front sight is so far from the end it's looking odd.

I think my bayonet idea is actually the easiest and less visible option. The M1 would look stock and I doubt many would notice the extra length on the bayo grip or care if they did.
