M1 Carbine gas piston nut?

I have to install a gas piston nut on my M1 Carbine. Does the crenellated part of the nut face the butt? How far is it screwed in?

the square cutouts face up on the nut the piston only goes one way

you NEED i repeat NEED the gas piston nut wrench to install it or it WILL bend break or distort once you have the wrench you see how it all fits


the piston nut was staked in place you dont need to really you will see how far down the nut needs to go
