Is this a decent rifle firing a 9mm? Holds 10 rounds so it sounds like a fun little toy. I see tradex is selling them.

I really like mine and it is every bit as much fun but cheaper to shoot than a real 30cal M1 Carbine. Same weight and balance but operates on blowback rather than through the power generated by a gas piston. Minor cosmetic differences that some can't live with but mine works very well and is surprisingly accurate. They take Berretta 92 FS mags as well that's why they are OK for ten rounds of 9mm.

I've been thinking about getting one of those since they came out but the price is turning me off considering g all of the plastic parts.

The original price on the first batch was like $400 or so, for that price I could live with plastic.

I talked to a guy who said his was very fussy for ammo.

That, and considering it's a Chiappa.... No go

Well, they seem to be very sturdy. As for your friend's opinion I disagree. I have been feeding mine a steady diet of Norinco fodder and it hasn't missed a beat. I did try some relatively light loads that I use in my P08 that just allow the toggle to function without hiccups and it still functioned well without any jams. The surplus Nato spec ammo I had left which consisted of around a hundred mixed rounds from England/Canada/South Africa and the US all worked well but shot to different points of impact with the same sight setting.

Yes, it is a Chiappa but it is made in Italy and most of the Italian firearms it has been my privilege to shoot do their jobs very well.

I could see it giving trouble with light loads though. The return spring is quite heavy. If I were going to shoot light loads I would likely remove a couple of coils from that spring or get a spare made up at Wolf.
