I have recently received a stock for an M1 Carbine and I am not sure if its a commercial or custom stock?
On the stock in two places is a letter and some numbers but don't know exactly what they represent.
It could be the year the stock was made, or a factory number?

Its great looking stock with hand checkering and a design that flows into both the top and bottom wood. Of its custom the guy really did a great job, he must have put a considerabel amount of time into it.

Here are some pictures of the stock.

Looks like an issue stock(most likely a Winchester stock. The 1952 could be anything.) that somebody with serious talent ravaged.

I don't think it would be an original USGI or commercial factory stock as all the wood ones I've seen have the slot in the butt for the sling, even the post-war commercial ones.
