Hey,

I did a search and M1 must be too short. As the title says I'm looking for a non-restricted M1 Carbine barrel. Who has them?

Thanks guys

try bits of pieces - a Vancouver area gunsmith. He does excellent work and has rebarreled restricted long arms into nonrestricted.

I don't think I've ever seen a non-restricted barrel come up on the EE. You can find the occasional M1 with a non-res barrel installed for an outrageous price but I have never seen a 18-3/4" barrel on the EE since I joined CGN!

I have. There was someone selling receivers and barrels. The barrels we definitely non-restricted. I check the EE quite religiously.

"...M1 must be too short..." Yep. The stupid law was aimed at the Carbine.
Unless somebody has tooled up to make 'em, they're very few and far between. Iver Johnson did a special run of 19" barreled carbines back in 1978 or '79. Not many though.

Hi there.
anthony @ tradexx in Montreal has them. I bought one from him a while back. He's a GunNutz member. Do a search for him, if you can't find him, I have his address somewhere. He's also in the Canadian Access to Firearms newspaper if you have a copy. I can find him for you, if you can't, will take a little time, though. Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies. Seems like there is a real shortage and that I'm out of luck.

Any barrel makers want to make a run of these?

One option would be an insert - Barry from bits of pieces has made a few of those. It is basically a new 308 liner inserted into restricted M1 cabine barrel. There is only about 1/2" or 3/8" of liner sticking out but cosmetically and functionally it is perfectly fine.

To machine brand new custom barrel will cost a fortune, there is bit of milling involved - that is why nobody ever made barrels for M1 Carbine. No point spending 500-800$ on a barrel for 400$ gun.

You should be able to have an extension added to the end of the restricted barrel to make it non restricted in length. im not sure how "Legal" that is but any gunsmith should be able to do that, i've considered giving that a try myself. would be cheaper then getting a new barrel or having a new liner put in.

Adding a barrel extension is no longer a "legal" way of making a restricted length barrel non-restricted, I don't know where the actual law is written but I have been informed by many people that it is no longer an option.
