M1 carbine rear sight

anyone know how to take apart the milled sight on an M1 carbine? i need to clean mine up it wont turn with the knob. anyone have a diagram even?

The sight was unitized at time of manufacture and cannot be dismantled without damaging it. You could try soaking it in a good penetrating oil, like Kroil. If that doesn't work replacement sight units of the milled or stamped type can be found without too much effort.

Try an ultra sonic cleaner and compressed air.

Try the gunsmith tip offered a week or so ago in the gunsmith forum... Regular ol' drugstore Iodine. drip some on, go have lunch and a snooze then wrap the knurled knob with a protective cover (leather) and the very gradually work it back and forth with a pair of pliers.
