I've got an IBM M1 carbine that shoots well to the right. I'm able to center it up at 50 yards, but the rear sight is at full adjust to do so. Can the band on the muzzle end of the barrel that holds the sight and protectors be rotated easily? Anyone know?

Thanks!

(actually, now that I think about it,. I have a similar problem but to the left with my M44 nagent......any ideas there would be great too, All I can think of is having the barrel turned a bit)

The front sight is keyed in place. It could not be easily rotated. Have you moved the rear sight in its dovetail, to gain a bit more windage?

"...be rotated easily..." No. It's keyed. The rear sight is in a dovetail, move it. Likely staked though.
The Moisin's front sight is in a dovetail too. Gets adjusted with a punch and plastic mallet. Remember to adjust it in the oppopsite direction you want the group to go. Go here. Add the W's.

Does it group consistently at 50 yds?

Yes, check the adjustable sight's fit in the dovetail on the receiver, sight base should be centred. If it's OK, take the stock off, turn the assembly upside down and check the "clock marks" on the barrel (where it screws into the receiver) and receiver to see if they are aligned. If they are not, this throws the front sight blade out of alignment, left or right.

Another thing to check is the condition of the muzzle crown right at the bore. if there's a ding or dent, it will throw the bullet off its trajectory (but your groupings would be bad too)

Hope this helps.

I have the sliding adjustable rear sight, screw adjusatable for windage. I'm out of travel to the left, groups are now mostly centered at 50 yards, but out a bit at 100....I havent' looked to see how the rear sight is mounted, that could buy me some room.....also will check barrel index....didn't know about the marks....the crown is in good shape...thanks all , we'll see how it goes
